A new movie is about to tell one of the stranger crossover stories between skating and music.

California $chemin’ follows Silibil N’ Brains, a rap duo from Scotland who were part of the Dundee skate scene before creating fake American personas and breaking into the music industry.

The whole thing was built around a California image pulled straight from early 2000s skate culture.

Watch the New Trailer Here:

From Dundee to the spotlight

Gavin Bain and Billy Boyd grew up skating in Dundee, where hip-hop and skateboarding overlapped in the early 2000s.

When they stepped into music, they leaned into that influence. Their personas were built around a West Coast image people already recognized, which helped them gain traction, get signed, and eventually tour with Eminem before everything unraveled.

The film, directed by James McAvoy in his first time behind the camera, premiered at the Toronto International Film Festival in September 2025. It’s set to release in the UK on April 10, 2026, with no confirmed U.S. release yet.

The look then and now

Their background in skating gave their image something real behind it. The California look they presented matched what people expected at the time, which helped make it convincing.

That same style shows up clearly in the film. The trailer leans into early 2000s details, including pieces from brands like Shorty’s.

That era’s mix of skating and hip-hop made that look instantly recognizable.

Now those same styles are coming back around. Baggy pants are everywhere again, older brands are getting a second life, and that early 2000s look is starting to feel current again.

That lines up with the timing of this film, putting an old story right next to what’s happening now.

Photo: Silibil N’ Brains

WHO GETS A PASS AND WHO DOESN’T?

Part of what makes this story work is that Bain and Boyd weren’t just dressing the part. They actually skated, and that gave their image something real behind it.

But even today, you still see people in music leaning into skate style, sometimes as part of who they are, sometimes just as an image.

You’ve got someone like Lil Wayne, who’s been skating for years and documenting it, which makes him legit enough as a skater for a lot of people.

Photo: Jason LaVeris / FilmMagic

Then you’ve got someone like A$AP Rocky, who’s been closely tied to skate culture through interviews, brand connections, and collaborations, but isn’t really known for actually skating.

That’s where it gets tricky.

So where do you draw the line?

Who actually gets a pass for using the skater look, and who’s just building an image around it?

And is that line is determined by how much they skate, or how good they are?

Let us know what you think in the comments!

If you’ve been following Welcome over the years, Ryan Townley has been one of those riders who always felt like part of the foundation. Not flashy, not chasing hype — just consistently putting in clips and holding it down for the brand’s identity.

Now that chapter is officially closed.

Welcome Skateboards made it public with a farewell post, writing:
“Where did the time go?! Farewell Ryan Townley, thank you for 10 years. Goodluck on your future plans, we love you ”

Townley responded in the comments:
“Love you all! Thank you so much for everything & all the special memories together ”

No drama, no weird energy — just a clean split after a decade.

The next clips are already telling a story

About a month after leaving Welcome, Townley started posting new clips — and about a week ago, the board under his feet changed.

He’s now been seen riding Enjoi decks across multiple recent Instagram clips.

There’s no official announcement tying him to the brand yet, but as always, what you’re skating tends to speak for itself.

A key part of Welcome’s most distinct era

Townley’s run with Welcome lines up with the brand’s most recognizable stretch — the shaped boards, the unconventional graphics, and a team that didn’t feel like anything else at the time.

He wasn’t just along for that era, he helped define it.

Ten years with one brand is rare now, and when someone like Townley steps away, it’s more than just a name leaving a roster. It marks a shift in what that brand looked like at its core.

A new chapter already in motion

Right now, the facts are simple — Townley is no longer on Welcome, and he’s currently skating Enjoi boards in his latest clips.

Whether that turns into something official remains to be seen, but the transition is already happening in real time.

Does Townley feel like a good fit for Enjoi?
If not, where do you want to see him land officially?

Let us know what you think!

If you were skating in the early-to-mid 2000s, Cliché Skateboards was hard to miss. The globe logo, the heavy European squad, and the era of videos like Bon Appétit made the brand a staple of street skating for a long stretch.

Now, out of nowhere, the name just popped back up — and this time, it’s not just a rumor.

A new Instagram account under the handle @clicheskateboards quietly made its first post this week.

No announcement, no rollout — just a single post, the classic globe logo as the profile image, and a bio that reads:

Cliché Skateboards was founded in 1997 by Jérémie Daclin in Lyon, France.

The account also lists Jérémie Daclin directly, making it clear this isn’t just a random fan page.

The Post That Started It

About three weeks before the page went live, JB Gillet posted clips of himself skating — along with a photo of the board he was riding: a Cliché deck.

The caption:

“ @jeremiedaclin”

At the time, it felt like it could go either way. Maybe just an old board. Maybe something more.

Now, with a new Cliché page tied directly to Daclin — and an actual “we’re back” message — that post looks a lot more like an early signal than a coincidence.

The Name Behind the Brand

For anyone newer to the scene, Jérémie Daclin is the original founder of Cliché Skateboards. He started the company in 1997 in Lyon, France, and it quickly became one of the most recognizable European skate brands of the late ‘90s and 2000s.

Cliché helped showcase a distinctly European style of street skating — marble plazas, long ledges, and city spots scattered across places like Lyon, Barcelona, and Paris.

Over the years the team included names like Lucas Puig, Javier Mendizabal, Joey Brezinski, Charles Collet, and Andrew Brophy, and the brand’s video output helped solidify its reputation.

The 2005 full-length Bon Appétit remains the most remembered release, introducing a lot of American skaters to the European scene and delivering standout parts from riders like Puig and Mendizabal.

When the Brand Went Quiet

After nearly two decades in skateboarding, Cliché shut down in November 2016 when Dwindle Distribution — which had purchased the brand from Salomon in 2009 — announced it would discontinue the company due to worsening market conditions.

Founder Jérémie Daclin later shared a message thanking the skate community — riders, shops, filmers, photographers, artists, and fans — who helped support the brand during its 19-year run.

For a lot of skaters, the shutdown felt like a piece of European skate history quietly disappearing.

What This Actually Looks Like

Now, between JB Gillet skating a Cliché board and tagging Daclin, a new Instagram page clearly tied to Daclin, and a “Cliché is back! Soon” message, this is starting to look like the early stages of a real comeback.

There’s still no official word on team riders, product, or release timing — but at this point, it’s not a question of if something is happening, just what it’s going to look like.

A Different Era, Same Question

If Cliché is really coming back, it won’t be stepping into the same world it left.

The industry now is smaller, faster, and way more direct. Brands don’t need full-length DVDs or big distributors to exist — they can build straight through Instagram and video drops.

Which makes this kind of low-key, social-first rollout feel pretty fitting.

For now though, all we’ve got is a fresh account, one post, a story that says “we’re back,” and a clip from a few weeks ago that suddenly makes a lot more sense.

And in skateboarding, that’s usually how something starts.

Were you a fan of Cliché back in the day?

And are you excited to see their comeback?

Let us know!

For most of skateboarding’s history, contest culture has been pretty straightforward: watch the skating, argue about the results afterward.

There were rankings and prize money, sure. But the entire fantasy sports ecosystem that surrounds leagues like the NFL or MLB never really existed in skateboarding.

That’s starting to change.

Former pro Mike Mo Capaldi has launched a PSL Fantasy League app, built around the Professional Skateboarding League (PSL) contest format. The idea brings a familiar concept from traditional sports into skating — letting fans draft teams of skaters and earn points based on how those riders perform in PSL events.

It’s a completely new way to interact with skate contests.

A Format Designed Like a League

The PSL itself has already been experimenting with a contest structure that looks a lot different from the typical skate competition.

Instead of the loose jam-style formats or simple runs that most contests rely on, the league leans heavily into structured scoring, brackets, and season-style competition. That system naturally lends itself to fantasy play, where individual performances can be tracked across events.

The new app builds directly on that idea.

Fans can draft PSL competitors, follow their results during contests, and compete against other fantasy players based on how their roster performs throughout the season.

For fans who enjoy tracking stats and performances, it adds another layer to following contests.

A New Conversation Around Contest Culture

Even if the PSL app itself is centered around fantasy competition, introducing systems like this almost always sparks another discussion: betting.

Fantasy sports platforms in traditional leagues often exist alongside gambling markets, even when those bets happen on completely separate platforms.

And skaters are already talking about that possibility online.

That kind of reaction highlights something new. People are beginning to talk about skate contests in ways that feel closer to mainstream sports — tracking stats, and using them to predict performances.

For a culture that has always prided itself on being different from traditional sports, that’s a noticeable shift.

Skateboarding Has Always Played by Its Own Rules

One of the reasons skate contests have historically felt unique is because skateboarding never fully embraced the structure of other competitive sports.

Events like Tampa Pro, Street League Skateboarding, and the X Games built their reputations around the skating itself — the tricks, the style, and the moment when someone lands something nobody expected.

Fans debated results and favorite tricks, but they weren’t drafting skaters onto fantasy rosters.

The PSL’s approach pushes things toward something closer to a league-style sports ecosystem.

Whether that ends up bringing more attention to skate contests or making them feel a little too much like traditional sports is something the community will probably continue debating as the league grows.

Are you Hyped on Fantasy League?

With the PSL Fantasy League app now live, it introduces a completely new way for fans to follow skate contests.

But skateboarding culture has always been protective of what makes it different.

Do you think you’ll draft a fantasy team of skaters?
Does this make contests more interesting to watch?
Or does turning skate contests into something that resembles traditional sports miss the point of what makes skateboarding unique?

Let us know what you think!

Ryan Sheckler has officially landed on Zero Skateboards.

After the shutdown of Sandlot Times, the board brand Sheckler launched in 2022, the longtime pro has joined the Zero roster. The announcement came through Zero’s social channels with photos and clips of Sheckler already skating Zero boards alongside the team, along with the message: “Boards coming soon.”

That strongly suggests a Sheckler Zero pro model is already in the works.

From Sandlot Times to Zero

Sandlot Times was Sheckler’s attempt to build his own brand and support younger skaters. The company released several boards and added riders like Manny Santiago before quietly shutting down earlier this year.

With that chapter closing, Sheckler was suddenly without a board sponsor — something that hasn’t happened often during his long career.

Now he’s riding for Zero, one of skateboarding’s longest-standing core street brands.

The Zero Legacy

Since the late ’90s, Zero has built its reputation around heavy street skating. From the early Misled Youth era through the Chris Cole years and beyond, the brand has always been associated with big rails, hubbas, and massive stair sets.

Jamie Thomas helped establish that approach, but the entire team carried it forward with riders like Chris Cole, Adrian Lopez, Lindsey Robertson, Tommy Sandoval, and other rippers.

Thomas’ Christian faith has also shaped parts of the brand’s visual identity over the years, with some Zero graphics incorporating cross imagery and biblical references.

A Few Changes to the Setup

The Zero move comes during a bit of a sponsor shakeup for Sheckler.

He recently joined the team at Slappy Trucks, adding a new truck sponsor alongside the new board brand.

Between the truck change and the move to Zero, Sheckler’s setup is looking pretty different than it did just a year ago.

What’s Next For Shecks?

With Zero already teasing boards on the way and showing Sheckler skating with the crew, it seems like he’s fully part of the team.

Now the big question is whether a new video part follows.

Sheckler’s earlier parts — like Almost’s Round Three and Plan B’s Superfuture — showed him jumping down serious gaps and stair sets, so seeing what he brings to the Zero team could be interesting.

Terry Kennedy is back in the skate conversation again — this time with a new brand identity.

His recently-launched company, TK Skate Co., has now been renamed Protest Skateboard Company, according to a newly launched Instagram page for the project. The messaging leans heavily into a rebellious street identity:

“Anti-culture. Anti-average. Born in the streets. We don’t ask. We take spots.”

So far, the brand mostly exists online. The Instagram page is active, but the website linked in the bio still points to tkskateco.com, which currently shows a “Coming Soon” page. No boards, team riders, or product announcements have been revealed yet.

But because of who’s behind it, the rebrand is already getting attention.

From Baker Videos to Mainstream Fame

Long before the controversy, Terry Kennedy was one of the most recognizable personalities in skateboarding.

He first made serious waves in the early 2000s through Baker Skateboards, appearing in classic videos like Baker 2G and Baker 3. His skating — combined with a loud personality and constant presence in the Baker crew — made him stand out during an era that included names like Andrew Reynolds, Dustin Dollin, and Jim Greco.

Kennedy’s visibility only grew from there. He later rode for Ice Cream / Billionaire Boys Club, Pharrell Williams’ skate brand, and began appearing outside core skate media on shows like Viva La Bam. He even starred in the 2009 skate film Street Dreams.

By the late 2000s, “Compton Ass Terry” had become one of the most recognizable skateboarders crossing over into mainstream pop culture.

Then everything changed.

The Prison Sentence That Changed His Career

In 2021, Kennedy was arrested after a violent altercation with fellow skateboarder Josiah Kassahun at an Illinois hotel. Kassahun later died after suffering severe injuries during the incident.

Kennedy was originally charged with first-degree murder but was later acquitted of that charge. He was ultimately convicted of two counts of aggravated battery and sentenced to five years in prison.

The case deeply divided the skate community and effectively removed Kennedy from the industry for several years. He was released on parole on December 31, 2025, after serving most of his sentence.

Life After Prison

During and after his time in prison, Kennedy spoke about trying to improve his life. Part of that included converting to Islam, which he described as a step toward discipline and personal change.

That aspect of his life isn’t really visible in his recent social posts though. Most of the content he’s sharing now revolves around skating again and promoting the new brand.

He’s also posted a few clips of himself back on the board since his release. After being away from skating for years, the footage understandably looks rough around the edges — something plenty of skaters online have pointed out.

That’s not surprising after such a long break, but it has also sparked debate about whether Kennedy can realistically re-enter skateboarding in a meaningful way.

Either way, Protest Skateboard Company appears to be the next chapter he’s trying to build.

The Name Situation

The rebrand also raises an interesting wrinkle.

Kennedy’s brand is called Protest Skateboard Company, but there’s already a skate brand operating under the name Protest Skateboards. That company, based in Canda, has been around for several years.

They’ve released boards in the past and even produced a guest pro model for Andy Anderson, which gave the brand some visibility within the scene.

Technically the names aren’t word-for-word identical, but they’re close enough in both name and in the products they sell that confusion between the two brands seems inevitable.

Trademark protections are typically tied to specific countries, but skate brands sell online and ship internationally. If Kennedy moves forward with a full skateboard brand under the Protest name, both companies would likely end up selling similar products under nearly identical names, potentially laying the groundwork for a lawsuit.

At this point there’s no indication of any dispute between the two companies. But the overlap is something the skate world will likely keep an eye on.

A Name Alone Won’t Carry a Skate Brand

Starting a new skate brand in 2026 isn’t easy. The industry is crowded, and credibility usually comes from one thing: the skating.

If Protest Skateboard Company wants legitimacy, skaters will likely want to see more than slogans. That usually means a solid team, boards hitting shops, and a proper video project.

Right now it’s mostly just a name and an idea.

But because Terry Kennedy is involved, people are definitely paying attention to what happens next.

What Do You Think?

Terry Kennedy has always been a polarizing figure in skateboarding, and this new brand will probably spark strong opinions.

Would you support Protest Skateboard Company?

What would the brand need to do to earn credibility in skateboarding today?

And do you think the name similarity with another Protest skate brand could become an issue down the road?

Let us know in the comments!

For a lot of skaters, Enjoi wasn’t just another board brand. It was a whole vibe.

The panda logo, the ridiculous ads, the chaotic team energy — Enjoi always felt like skateboarding having fun with itself. At a time when a lot of brands were leaning serious and technical, Enjoi leaned the other direction and somehow still put out some of the most memorable video parts of the era.

So when the brand got tangled up in corporate ownership over the last few years, plenty of skaters assumed that version of enjoi was probably gone for good.

But now there’s a twist: Louie Barletta has officially taken the brand back.

After what he’s described as a three-year effort to regain control, Barletta confirmed that Enjoi is once again in skater hands.

How Enjoi Ended Up in Corporate Limbo

Enjoi was founded in 2000 by Marc Johnson and Rodney Mullen, eventually becoming part of Dwindle Distribution, which also ran brands like Almost, Blind, and Darkstar.

For years that structure worked — until Dwindle shut down in 2022. After the collapse, the brands were acquired by Highline Industries, a holding company that purchased the intellectual property and began relaunching them under a new structure.

On paper the brands still existed, but many of the original voices that built them weren’t involved in running them anymore.

Barletta has said that never sat right with him. Over the past three years he worked behind the scenes to regain control of Enjoi and bring the brand back under someone who actually came up within its culture.

Now that effort has finally paid off.

The Enjoi Era That Defined a Generation

Even skaters who never rode Enjoi boards probably remember the videos.

The brand’s 2006 video “Bag of Suck” became one of the defining skate videos of the era. Jerry Hsu’s part alone is still considered one of the greatest skate video parts ever filmed, while the rest of the video perfectly captured the weird humor and personality that made the brand stand out.

Louie Barletta was right in the middle of that energy. His skating — creative, awkward, unpredictable — embodied the idea that skating didn’t have to look perfect to be incredible.

For a lot of skaters who grew up in that era, Enjoi represented a version of skateboarding that didn’t take itself too seriously while still pushing incredible skating.

That’s a big reason the news of Barletta reclaiming the brand is hitting so hard with longtime fans.

The Jacuzzi Question

One interesting wrinkle in all of this is Jacuzzi Unlimited, the board company Barletta co-founded in recent years.

Jacuzzi has built its own identity quickly, with a team and aesthetic that clearly reflects Louie’s creative direction. So now that Enjoi is back under his control, people are naturally wondering how those two brands will coexist.

The first Enjoi board posted since the announcement gives a small hint. Instead of a traditional relaunch graphic, it’s a Enjoi x Jacuzzi Unlimited crossover board.

That raises some interesting possibilities. Maybe Barletta tries to balance both brands at once. Maybe Jacuzzi continues under co-owner Jeff Davis’ leadership while Louie focuses more heavily on rebuilding Enjoi.

Or maybe the crossover approach hints at something more collaborative between the two.

For now, the exact plan isn’t clear — but the fact that the first board ties the two brands together suggests this story might be bigger than just a simple Enjoi comeback.

Enjoi’s Second Life

Barletta hasn’t fully revealed the roadmap yet, but he’s hinted that the goal is to rebuild Enjoi with the same spirit that made people care about it in the first place.

That could mean new riders, new graphics, and potentially new video projects down the line.

What we do know is that Enjoi is once again being run by someone who helped shape its identity during its most memorable years.

And in a skate industry where legacy brands often fade out or get absorbed into corporate portfolios, seeing one come back under skater control is rare.

The panda might not be done yet.

What Do You Think?

Louie bringing Enjoi back into skater hands could mark the start of a real revival.

But it also raises new questions — especially with Jacuzzi Unlimited already in the mix.

However it plays out, it’s going to be interesting to watch.

If you’ve been seeing the Think Skateboards name popping up again lately, you’re not the only one.

Over the past few months, longtime skate industry figure Greg Carroll has been posting archival photos, graphics, and old tour shots to a Think Skateboards Instagram page. What started as a simple archive quickly turned into something bigger as skaters started asking the same question in the comments:

Is Think coming back?

According to Carroll, the answer might be yes — but there’s still some work to do before it becomes official.

During a recent interview on The Nine Club, Carroll explained that the idea of reviving the brand gained momentum after fans kept pushing for it.

“People kept hitting me up like, ‘Dude, bring it back. Are you bringing it back?’ At first I was like, I don’t know… this was just an archive page.” — Greg Carroll

But as the hype grew, Carroll reached out to Keith Cochrane to seriously discuss the possibility.

A Trademark Situation Complicated Things

One unexpected obstacle appeared quickly: the Think trademark was no longer controlled by Carroll and Cochran.

After Carroll left the company in 2002 to work as general manager at Girl Skateboards, and Cochran exited a couple years later, the brand eventually shut down. But someone associated with the company later renewed the trademark — meaning legally the founders couldn’t simply relaunch it themselves.

Carroll said that after a public video explaining the situation, the trademark holder reached out and the conversations have been positive so far.

“She’s got the trademark. We have the legacy and the industry backing us. So we’re figuring out how to make it work together.”

If negotiations go well, the brand could relaunch under a new partnership structure.

What a Think Comeback Could Look Like

If Think does return, Carroll says the approach will focus on honoring the brand’s legacy while keeping things fun.

Early plans include:

OG Think logo boards

Limited capsule drops

Reissues of classic pro models

Apparel like shirts and hats

Art-driven collaborations and gallery launches

Carroll also hinted at a potential gallery event tied to the launch that would combine skate art, graphics, and memorabilia.

“This isn’t about money. It’s about doing something fun for the community.”

Why Think Still Matters to Skateboarding

For anyone who grew up skating in the 90s or early 2000s, Think wasn’t just another board brand — it had a serious team and some heavy video output.

The company launched in 1990 and eventually signed legendy pros like Jason Adams, Wade Speyer, Matt Hensley, Phil Shao, Dan Drehobl, Diego Bucchieri, Corey Duffel, Adam Dyet, Cody McEntire, and more.

Think also produced multiple skate videos, including the well-known Free At Last video, which helped cement the brand’s place in skateboarding history.

One interesting piece of trivia: the brand name itself came from a random grocery sticker.

A team rider named Nick Lockman reportedly showed up with a small sticker that said “Think.” Carroll and Cochran instantly knew it was the name.

“We looked at it and were like… that’s it. That’s all we do — we think about skateboarding.”

Timing Might Be Perfect

The potential return of Think also comes during a broader wave of heritage brands resurfacing.

In recent years skaters have seen renewed interest in classic companies, vintage graphics, and nostalgia-driven releases. At the same time, longtime skaters — many now in their 30s, 40s, and 50s — have become a major part of the market again.

That could make a Think revival land at the right moment.

As Carroll put it:

“This is a story of a phoenix. A rebirth.”

What Happens Next

Nothing is finalized yet, but Carroll says discussions are ongoing and a decision could come soon.

If things fall into place legally, the next step would likely be a soft launch followed by more structured releases.

Until then, the Think archive page continues to keep the brand’s history alive — and keep the hype building.

If you grew up skating in the early 2000s, there’s a good chance you’ve watched Grind at least a few times.

The 2003 cult skate movie followed four amateur skaters traveling across the country trying to get noticed by pro teams while chasing the fictional Super Duper Tour.

Now it looks like the long-rumored sequel is actually happening.

A post from the account grindmovierewind recently confirmed that Grind 2 is in production, with the movie being written and directed once again by Casey La Scala. The post also suggests the sequel is aiming for a 2027 release.

La Scala also confirmed in a recent interview that the original cast is excited about returning, even though some of them have stepped away from acting over the years.

Check out this teaser posted on Instagram:

A Skate Cult Classic

When Grind first released in 2003, it wasn’t exactly a huge box office hit.

But over time the movie became a cult classic among skaters.

A big part of that was the ridiculous road-trip storyline and early-2000s skate culture energy, but it was also packed with appearances from real skateboarders.

Skaters like:

Bam Margera

Ryan Sheckler

Chad Fernandez

Kareem Campbell

Mike Vallely

Tony Hawk

Bob Burnquist

Pierre-Luc Gagnon

Bucky Lasek

& More

Seeing real pros pop up throughout the movie made it feel like it was actually connected to the skate world at the time.

For a lot of skaters who grew up in that era, spotting those cameos became part of the fun.

Could Super Duper Become Real?

One of the more interesting ideas being discussed for the sequel’s marketing is bringing the fictional Super Duper Skateboards brand into the real world.

La Scala said they’ve been playing with the idea of doing an actual Super Duper demo tour, possibly using the original tour van from the first movie.

They’re also exploring ways to bring fans into the film as extras, which could turn the sequel into more of a community project for people who grew up with the original movie.

In the meantime, some fans are already leaning into the nostalgia — there’s even a fan-run website selling Super Duper Skateboards merch online.

@superduperskateboard Who’s gonna be in that van?? #grind2 #fyp #fypシ #skateboarding #trending ♬ original sound – Superduperskateboards

What Could Grind 2 Look Like?

Plot details haven’t been revealed yet, but if the sequel follows the original timeline, the characters would now be more than twenty years older.

That opens the door for some interesting possibilities.

Maybe they’re:

running skate shops

filming YouTube parts

managing brands

or still chasing sponsorships long after their prime.

Either way, it’s hard to imagine a Grind sequel without another lineup of pro skater cameos.

The Big Question: Who Should Appear in Grind 2?

If the sequel leans into the same formula as the original, there’s a good chance we’ll see a mix of classic pros and modern skaters appearing in the film.

So the real question is:

Which skaters would you want to see show up in Grind 2?

Should they bring back the OG legends that were in the first film?

Or should they feature newer pros?

And who else is hoping for another Tom Green cameo??

Let us know who you think should make an appearance!

Glass House Skateboards has officially parted ways with Pat Burke following his recent arrest on charges related to assault and strangulation.

The news of Burke’s arrest began circulating earlier this week, and shortly after, the brand confirmed that he is no longer affiliated with the company. While the legal process will ultimately determine the outcome of the case, the seriousness of the charges appears to have prompted Glass House to make an immediate separation.

At the time of writing, the brand has only released a short statement confirming the split shared via an instagram story.

From $lave to Glass House

For many skaters, Burke’s name is probably most closely tied to $lave Skateboards, the brand launched by former Zero art director Ben Horton in the mid-2000s.

Burke was one of the original riders for $lave and remained closely associated with the company for years as it built a respected team and identity within the independent skate scene.

After roughly 18 years, Horton decided to rebrand the company. The change was partly because of the controversy surrounding the idea and history of slavery, and partly because he simply wanted to move on creatively. That transition eventually led to the launch of Glass House Skateboards, which carried over pieces of the original team and aesthetic while starting a new chapter.

Burke continued to be associated with the project during that shift.

Previous Arrest Records

Public arrest records show that Burke has had several prior run-ins with law enforcement over the past decade.

These include arrests in 2018 for simple assault, 2021 for charges including resisting arrest, possession of controlled substances, assault on a law enforcement officer, and carrying a concealed weapon, and 2022 for resisting arrest.

Additional arrest records appear in 2024 and 2022 in Virginia jurisdictions, though the available records do not list specific charges for those incidents.

As with any arrest record, charges listed in police reports do not necessarily indicate guilt, and outcomes of those cases are not always publicly available without further court documentation.

A Changing Climate in Skateboarding

Incidents involving abuse allegations unfortunately aren’t completely new in skateboarding. Over the years, situations have surfaced involving well-known figures in the industry — including Chris Cole’s ex-wife publicly alleging abuse during their divorce.

In the past, these kinds of stories sometimes faded away without much accountability. Today, skaters and fans are far more vocal about expecting brands to respond when serious allegations come to light.

Glass House cutting ties with Burke reflects that shift in how the skate world handles these situations.

Looking Ahead

Because this is still an active legal matter, the full outcome — including potential sentencing or legal consequences — remains unknown and will ultimately be decided through the courts.

What matters most is that situations involving violence are taken seriously. Accountability for harmful behavior is important, and ideally cases like this lead to justice for victims and real change from those responsible.

For the skate industry, it’s another reminder that the culture continues to evolve for the better when it comes to addressing difficult issues.

What Do You Think?

Situations like this often spark debate in skateboarding.

Do you think brands should immediately drop riders when serious allegations surface?

Has the skate industry improved when it comes to holding people accountable?

And where should companies draw the line between a rider’s personal life and their sponsors?
